Demand for used vans 'on the up in May 2011'

A growing number of UK businesses sought to invest in second-hand vans last month, according to a new report.

Data from British Car Auctions (BCA) reveals that the average value of a used light commercial vehicle (LCV) rose to £4,218 in May 2011, while sold volumes rebounded by 6.7 per cent.

This represented a recovery from the previous month, when demand for vans was impacted by a spate of bank holidays and unseasonable April heat.

BCA general manager Duncan Ward stated that buyers are most likely to be looking for LCVs that are in good condition and well-kept, even if it means purchasing one with a higher mileage.

He added: "Despite continuing wider economic concerns, small businesses continue to support the used LCV sector strongly, particularly in the budget end of the market."

This comes after Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders figures from earlier this month showed that new van sales were also on the up last month.
