According to research by used car specialists Carcraft, owners of the Mini Cooper are the most sociable through online networking sites like Facebook.

In a recent study, some 20,000 Mini Cooper owners were found to be networking across more than 300 Facebook groups related in some way to their make or model of car.

Second place was taken by the Honda Civic, shown to have 187 fan groups on the website.

Managing director at Carcraft Barry Nightingale commented: "It is interesting to see that cars are not only viewed as a symbol of wealth and status but they are increasingly becoming a crucial part of people's identity and social life."
