Thames Valley motorists may require convicted driver insurance

More motorists in the Thames Valley area may now require convicted driver insurance following a police operation in east Berkshire last week.

Speed checks were carried out in a number of locations and some 85 individuals were found to be breaking 30 mph limits.

Anyone travelling at more than 40 mph was issued with three penalty points and a £60 fine.

People caught moving at between 35 mph and 39 mph were able to avoid the fixed penalty notices and the endorsements on their licences if they agreed to attend a speed awareness course.

Commenting on the operation, PC Bob Wade said: "The amount of drivers caught is disappointing as some of these roads are residential roads where the dangers are more serious."

He added the checks had been carried out in response to concerns raised by local residents.

Meanwhile, motorists who have a conviction for speeding may find they can still secure affordable insurance by searching online.
