Business minister Mark Prisk has carried out a tour of the Goodwood manufacturing plant of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars in West Sussex to learn more about how the company plans to expand during the coming year.

He commented: "I am delighted to have been invited to the start of the building expansion programme at Rolls-Royce Motor Cars. The company's hand-built luxury models are flag bearers for British manufacturing and we should join Rolls-Royce in celebrating this great British success story."

Historic Rolls Royce Expansion Plans

Mr Prisk was shown a number of new ventures which the manufacturer will be embarking on in 2012, including the expansion of its Assembly Hall and Surface Finish Centre that is beginning construction this month and aims to be fully operational by the end of spring.

This will mark the final phase of construction works at the site for now, with the property having already been expanded by 2,500 sq m over the last 18 months.

Once finished, the new space is set to be used to improve the company's bespoke manufacturing operations - an area where the company has seen a significant upturn in demand over recent years.

Rolls-Royce Motor Cars has been in operation since 1904 and prides itself on being a leading provider of luxury and classic vehicles to customers across the globe.

Furthermore, 2011 marked the 100th anniversary of the company's famous emblem - the Spirit of Ecstasy - which adorns the bonnet of all its vehicles.

As a result, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars commissioned world-renowned British photographer Rankin to deliver a portfolio of stunning pictures to capture the essence of this iconic emblem.

Throughout the year the collection of 100 stunning images has been touring the countries where the company operates, with 16 countries included in total.
