Hundreds of cars to descend on new Regent Street show

RAC Motorshow Takes To The Road

Over 300 cars representing various stages in automotive history will descend on central London's Regent Street for a new motoring show.

Scheduled for Saturday November 5th and presented by the Royal Automotive Club (RAC), working in conjunction with the Regent Street Association, the Motor Show that bears the famous thoroughfare's name will showcase three centuries of automotive innovation.

Enthusiasts and sight-seers alike might end up wanting to take out a vintage car policy as delicately restored Mini Coopers will rub shoulders with around 100 19th century motors. In the Concours d'Elegance, the historic motoring display will also feature people in full historic costume.

Taking over a third of mile of the street - from Piccadilly Circus to Conduit Street - the show is expected to draw over 250,000 people in the free-to-spectate event, "which promises to deliver a truly remarkable spectacle", said RAC motoring committee chairman Ben Cussons.

He added: "Spectators can also enjoy displays, stage shows, award presentations and passenger rides, making the Regent Street Motor Show a great family day out."

London to Brighton Veteran car run

The event will also comprise the London to Brighton Veteran car run where vintage cars will attempt to recreate the historic time trial between the two centres, as well as the simultaneous Brighton to London RAC Future Car Challenge, which mixes old with new as innovative cars attempt to battle against the clock.

Regent Street Association's Annie Walker said they had welcomed the veteran run for many years and were pleased to see the arrival of new, low-energy cars in the challenge.

"We look forward to welcoming all the participants, spectators and regular shoppers to Regent Street," she added.

Meanwhile, BMW has unveiled two concept cars for the Future Car Challenge, which the manufacturer claims demonstrates its commitment to low-carbon fuel-efficient cars. The Mini E concept will compete with fellow concept model BMW Active E and the 320d Efficient Dynamics.

The winner of the 60-mile event will be the car that has used the least amount of energy overall.
