First time classic car owners 'are increasing'

Interest in Classic Car Ownership

An increasing number of British motorists looking for a fun and cost-effective vehicle are choosing to purchase their very own slice of the past as sales of classic cars have risen significantly in recent months.

According to specialist classic car auction company Historics at Brooklands, more people are beginning to show an interest in the surging market, while deliveries of newly manufactured vehicles are wavering.

Auction director Edward Bridger-Stille said: "There is an indisputable financial argument against buying even a modest newish car if it's not driven a great deal, as it can suffer high insurance and maintenance costs and continuing depreciation."

His comments were made to mark the organisation's upcoming auction on October 22nd, where attendees will be given the chance to explore a selection of antique creations including a 1974 MGB GT v8, a 1976 Triumph Stag Mk II and a Reliant Scimitar GTE.

Classic car cover policyholders with a preference for rejuvenating vehicles themselves are also able to purchase cars that require DIY input ranging from minor repairs to complete restoration.

"Unlike modern-day cars festooned with electronic systems, [these vehicles] are generally very simple and rewarding to work on," Mr Bridger-Stille added.

He also suggested that by purchasing a classic car, motorists could leave an auction in an original 1970s British vehicle for just £5,000, allowing them to rest easy in the knowledge that their purchase is likely to increase in value over time.

This news comes after Historics and Brooklands announced that a 50-year-old London Metropolitan Police vehicle would be available at the upcoming auction in Surry later this month.

After being retired from the force in 1967, 670 ELL adopted a high-profile presence at the Goodwood Revival classic motoring event at the hands of its current owner, who has enjoyed the car for the past 32 years.
