The classic burgundy Mk II Jaguar made famous by Oxford's fictional Inspector Morse is taking part in the largest circumnavigation of Britain's coastline - the RB12 event.

Set to both start and finish at the Weymouth & Portland National Sailing Academy, the event is a unique marathon by road, air and sea that will see entrants racing to get around the UK as fast as possible.

However, a notable entrant in this year's race is the Mk II's owner Philip Greader, who will be taking the iconic burgundy Jaguar on a tour of the sights of the UK.

"As an Englishman now living in Australia, I fully understand the importance of this iconic car staying in the UK and the RB12 event offers the perfect opportunity to showcase it while ensuring myself and my partner Joanna have a lot of fun," Mr Greader commented.

The car is one of 15 entrants into the RB12 this year, which features six classes of vintage and luxury cars, as well as SUVs, supercars and green vehicles.

Each will embark on a number of time trials to reach destinations around the UK, with the event set to get underway on June 12th next year and run for ten days.

At the end of each day's racing, the entrants will be invited to a reception evening where they can unwind, while doing it all over again the following morning.

Having featured in the Inspector Morse series for 13 years, the Jaguar Mk II formed an integral part of the fictional Oxford in which Morse lived, proving almost as popular as the man who played the lead role.

Actor John Thaw played the esteemed Endeavour Morse, picking up two Baftas in 1990 and 2001, with the immensely popular series being viewed by up to 18 million people per episode at its peak.
