Barons prepares for Yuletide Classic sale

Rare 1932 Alvis Speed 20 SA two-door Sports Tourer on sale

Vintage car insurance policyholders will flock to the magnificent Surrey Hall next month as Barons hosts its traditional Yuletide Classic sale in the historical venue, where a number of luxurious antique vehicles will be on offer.

Headlining this year's entry will be an exceptionally rare 1932 Alvis Speed 20 SA two-door Sports Tourer, which has undergone a thorough body-off restoration over the past five years.

Thought to be one of the most desirable Alvis models, the vehicle is expected to attract offers of between £95,000 and £120,000 from classic car enthusiasts who have travelled from far and wide to attend the prestigious event.

Historic racing cars are extremely popular among visitors to the proceedings, with this year's collection including a 1959 Elva 100 Formula Junior featuring a 1098cc A series engine and copies of HSCC identity forms, VSCC eligibility card and FIA Papers up to and including the year 2000.

A 1966 Daimler V8 2.51, which has been in the vendor's ownership for 24 years, is also up for grabs and has covered just 59,000 miles. The vehicle has benefited significantly from an oil change approximately every 500 miles and has been protected in a garage since it was purchased.

It has been repainted in its original colour of British racing green by Southern Classics 12 years ago, with the interior still boasting its original carpets, headlining and leather.

Topping the charts at Barons' November sale was a 1966 Austin Healey 3,000 MKIII, with a 1965 model consigned for the upcoming event. The car has received over £8,000 worth of recent expenditure with a well-known specialist, and work included the installation of new floors, inner and outer sills, as well as new outriggers.

Earlier this year, Barons celebrated the 50th anniversary of the E-type Jaguar by offering one of just 50 limited edition models ever made at its September sale. The vehicle won accolades of best E-type and car of the day at the Jaguar Drivers Club International E-type day in June 2010.
