Business Insurance - Service stations 'too expensive for quarter of fleet drivers'

A quarter of commercial drivers avoid service stations for fuel and other needs because they believe they are too expensive.

That is according to research from the Fuelcard Company, which also revealed that many fleet motorists are unhappy with the sub-standard produce these outlets sell.

Respondents also criticised service stations for their lack of cleanliness and poor choice, with drivers preferring to visit supermarkets instead.

A further four per cent stated that these facilities are much better in other countries in terms of hygiene and friendlier staff.

Jakes de Kock, sales and marketing director at the Fuelcard Company, said that service stations need to take these findings on board.

"The fact that drivers are making a conscious choice not to use them and are instead prepared to turn off the motorway to seek out cheaper supermarket sites shows just how bad the problem has become," he added.

According to Motorway Services, Stop24 Services in Folkestone is the best service facility in the UK as voted by UK motorists.
