Vehicle owners 'must tread carefully'

Vintage vehicle owners who do not look after their tyres could increase their risk of being involved in an accident and having to make a claim on their collectors car insurance, if the comments of one manufacturer are anything to go by.

Continental Tyres said it is vital that motorists check pressure and tread depth on a regular basis.

It explained it had carried out research that suggested drivers were aware of this, but were not doing anything about it.

The survey of 4,000 road users revealed ten per cent had insufficient tread depth and a further 40 per cent were unsure how to tell if a tyre was defective or not.

Head of safety at Continental Tim Bailey commented: "People just don't think about it enough or they don't know what to look for."

Checking tread depth and tyre pressure on a regular basis could help antique auto owners protect the no-claims bonus on their classic car insurance.
