One of 50 rare E-types to be sold at Sandown auction

A special commemorative Jaguar E-type will go on sale as part of a Barons auction at Sandown Park on September 20th.

The specialist classic car auctioneer has released details on a number of highly collectible autos that will be sold at the event, including a famous 1954 Triumph TR2 used by the company for its marketing and promotional work.

However, it is the Jag that has caught the attention of fans, collectors and other classic car insurance customers. The E-type was one of only 50 models to be produced in 1974 to commemorate the company's final production of the iconic British machine.

The sale of the vehicle, exquisitely finished in black with cinnamon upholstery, is expected to raise between £145,000 and £165,000.

Recently, the Jaguar E-type was awarded the prestigious title of being the country's most beloved sports car in an online poll of 3,000 people conducted by race organisers of the Silverstone Classic.

Event director Nick Wigley said: "Britain is famous for its sports cars but until now no-one has ever been able to say which one is the best. That's a long-running debate we have now put to rest."
