Modified Mini takes part in Nurburgring race

A specially modified Mini vehicle has taken part in the 24-hour race at the Nurburgring-Nordschleife circuit in the last week.

Mini created a special version of its Mini John Cooper Works Coupe model to compete in the racing event as a means of previewing the new vehicle to attendees, ahead of its UK launch later this year.

The custom Mini John Cooper Works Coupe Endurance vehicle featured a specially turned engine offering 250 hp and top speeds of more than 240 km/h, as well as stiff racing suspension and new shock absorbers.

It also incorporated a built-in roll cage for added safety and an integrated pneumatic jack.

According to the manufacturer, the "extreme demands of the classic endurance event" helped to ensure the modified vehicle was given a "baptism of fire".

The retail version of the Mini John Cooper Works Coupe will be launched alongside the rest of the new Mini Coupe range on October 1st 2011 in the UK.
