Thousands of green cars 'will be around by 2012'

Green cars are here to stay, according to one expert.

Dr Ben Lane from nextgreencar.com - which provides expert and independent information to those researching more environmentally-friendly automobiles - has predicted there will be thousands of the motors around by 2012.

And he noted that with fuel prices increasing once again, the rise of the eco-friendly car is more important than it has ever been.

Dr Lane added: "The most you can save is by using electric vehicles, so if they are ever going to make it, now is the time."

But he admitted nobody knows exactly how well the green motor market is going to do, despite having high hopes for it.

This comes after the government announced last month it is set to introduce a plug-in car grant entitling people who purchase some electrics motors up to £5,000 off the price, which could lead 2011 to be the year of the electric vehicle in the UK.
