Van Insurance - Volkswagen named van manufacturer of the year

Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has picked up the prestigious title of van manufacturer of the year at the 2012 Van Fleet World Honours awards.

Announced at a ceremony in London this week, the event also saw the company pick up trophies for its Caddy (best small van) and Transporter (best medium van) models.

John Kendall, editor of Van Fleet World, noted the low emissions offered across the manufacturer's range of vehicles were an important aspect of deciding the winner of this year's awards.

Alastair Hemmings, national fleet manager for Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, said: "We continue to improve our vans so that as well as being award winners, they also offer great value with lower ownership costs and competitive finance options."

Earlier this year, Volkswagen's T5 Transporter was named the used van of the year for 2011 by CAP.

The judges based the award on the T5's strong brand image, as well as its appeal to a wide range of operators, noted head of the CAP commercial vehicle pricing team and judging panel chairman John Watts.
