Van Insurance - UK van sector down last month

UK van and truck registrations were both down last month, new data has revealed.

Figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) revealed a combined 13.7 per cent decline for new registrations. However, the news was not all negative, as figures for the rolling year were up by 4.1 per cent at 292,352.

Paul Everitt, SMMT chief executive, said: "Last month's CV Show saw the launch of a host of new sophisticated and efficient vehicles that will be important to the sector's performance through the rest of 2012 and beyond."

He added that the mainstay of last month's declines came about due to a drop-off in the up to 3.5-tonne sector.

According to BCA's monthly Commercial Pulse for February, a 4.7 per cent fall in the average value of used vans was recorded during the month to £4,272.

Duncan Ward, BCA's general manager for commercial vehicles, noted this is the second year in a row that a February fall has followed a strong performance in January.
