Van Insurance - Ford Transit Club reaches 1,000 members

The Ford Transit Club is celebrating reaching the milestone of welcoming its 1,000th member.

Set up just seven years ago to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the launch of the iconic vehicle, the organisation has become one of the largest in the UK for Transit enthusiasts.

Darren Kempton, owner of signage and vehicle graphics business DJK Signs and the club's 1,000th member, commented: "The Transit has been part of my life since I first started driving one in 1996 and now I have bought a second classic model, a 1969 Mk I camper van, as a restoration project."

He registered his 1986 Mk II long-wheelbase Transit earlier this month and received a commemorative certificate from club founder Peter Lee.

"I never imagined the club would grow so quickly to reach 1,000 members," said Mr Lee. "I think that says everything you need to know about the Transit and its place in people's hearts."

Members of the club attend events organised by Mr Lee across the UK each year, exhibiting their vehicles and having the chance to meet up with other enthusiasts of this iconic model.

The latest edition of the Ford Transit benefits from a host of features that were not available 47 years ago when the vehicle first came to the market, meaning owners are now spoilt for choice in terms of the functionality of their van.

Options for buyers include a range of engine choices and payload capacities, wheelbases and tyre packages, meaning the Transit can be tailored to meet all of the needs of users.

Meanwhile, technical innovations over the past four decades have been built into the Transit as standard, meaning drivers benefit from Ford's Auto-Stop technology - switching off the engine when the vehicle is stationary to deliver improved fuel efficiency and lower emissions - as well as smart regenerative charging, variable nozzle turbo systems, all-wheel drive and much more.
