The Peugeot Bipper has been named as this year's best light van at the Fleet World Honours by a panel of expert judges.

Available on the road from £13,089, the vehicle offers a spacious load area and excellent driver comfort for users. It is capable of carrying a total payload of 660 kg and has a capacity of 2.5 cubic metres, making it one of the most popular vehicles for use in the UK haulage sector for small-scale deliveries.

Its performance is also exemplary in terms of fuel efficiency and low emissions, with the Bipper's 1.4-litre 75 hp engine emitting just 119 g/km of CO2.

Jonathan Bates, Peugeot LCV product manager, said: "The Bipper is a terrific light commercial van and thoroughly deserves to be the best light van [of] 2012.

His comments were echoed by Fleet World managing editor Ross Durkin, who noted light commercial vehicle manufacturers have really picked up the baton for delivering first-class vans to consumers in recent years.

He added that every year, the competitions seems to get more fierce as manufacturers look to provide even greater fuel efficiency, environmental performance, reliability and lower whole-life costs for users.

The honour of best light van was bestowed on the vehicle at the Fleet World Honours awards evening at the Royal Automobile Club in Pall Mall, London earlier this month, with the judging panel comprising of John Kendall, Steve Moody, Alex Grant and Mr Durkin, all from Fleet World's editorial team.

Previous accolades that have been awarded to the Bipper include best new van of 2008 by Fleet World Honours, best light van of 2010 at the iVan & iTruck Awards and city van of the year for 2011 from the Fleet Van Awards.
