Business Insurance - New Mazda money-saving technology revealed for car drivers

Business vehicle insurance policyholders reliant on fleets of company cars are likely to benefit from Mazda's latest technology.

Mazda's SKYACTIV innovations relate to engine efficiency, aerodynamics, vehicle weight and transmission - all designed to reduce overall costs and deliver tax and fuel savings for European fleet operators and company car drivers.

The manufacturer's new petrol and diesel engines, the SKYACTIV-G and D models, are said to deliver 15 and 20 per cent increases in fuel economy respectively. The decision to pioneer fossil-fuel based engine innovation was due to research indicating that ten per cent of new cars sold in 2020 will be "fully electric," according to Christian Blank, director of European fleet operations at Mazda.

He added: "The strategy we are pursuing is the right one - first launching breakthrough technologies for gasoline and diesel engines while continuing to work on hybrid and electric."

Meanwhile, the manufacturer's MX-5 has scooped another award with the title of best roadster in Auto Express's New Car Awards, representing the sixth consecutive Auto Express award for the brand's popular two-seater.
