Business Insurance - 1/3 are considering an electric car purchase this year, survey says

A survey has revealed one-in-three people are considering buying an electric car within the next 12 months.

According to the Motorpoint study - in which 1,900 people took part - 41 per cent admitted they would like to invest in a green automobile in the near future, as they have been impressed by what has come onto the market so far.

These included vehicles such as the award-winning Nissan LEAF - which was named 2011 European Car of the Year - and the Mitsubishi iMiEV.

David Shelton, managing director of the company, stated: "It is clear that there is likely to be an initial take-up of electric cars from the so-called early adopters."

What's more, he pointed out if brands want to ensure a lot of people buying these eco-friendly motors then "price, range, reliability and residual values" are all main areas that need to be looked at.
