Van insurance holders 'must be more eco-friendly'

Van insurance customers who carry passengers or goods may have to change their driving habits to make them more eco-friendly, it has been claimed.

The Driving Standards Agency has said that van insurance holders may have to sit a test in which they will have to show that their driving is eco-friendly by the end of 2008, reports RoadTransport.com.

"If you look at these big motorway hold-ups with thousands of cars sitting there for anything up to half an hour at a time, if they were all to switch off then there could be massive savings in pure pollution alone," said Bob Millard, assistant chief examiner at the agency.

He added that the bigger the vehicle is, the bigger the savings to be made.

In the most recent publication of Driving - the essential skills by the Driving Standards Agency, a chapter has been devoted to eco-safe driving, while a further section is dedicated to helping van insurance customers avoid congestion.
