Van insurance holders could be more likely to fall asleep at the wheel than other motorists if they drive for a living.
Findings by road safety charity Brake have shown that ten per cent of people who drive for work purposes have fallen asleep in the driver's seat, compared with one in 25 drivers who use their vehicles for other reasons.
According to the charity, motorists are likely to fall asleep if they have had insufficient sleep the night before.
"It is outrageous that so many companies allow their employees to drive on company time when they are so tired that they actually fall asleep," said Cathy Keeler, head of campaigns for Brake.
She added that firms should introduce procedures that would help employees avoid putting themselves - and potentially their van insurance policies - in danger.
Motorists who drive between midnight and 06:00 GMT could be more at risk of falling asleep at the wheel than others, according to the government's road safety website Think!.
