Holders of van insurance policies may be interested to read that the government is planning to kickstart the UK's market for green vans via a new fund.
The Department for Transport has announced a new programme worth an initial £20 million with the aim of creating low CO2 models for use in public sector fleets.
If the scheme is successful, ministers have pledged a further £30 million to hep develop the programme further.
The scheme has been catalysed because vans produce 15 per cent of road transport CO2 emissions and there are currently no mass market models available in the UK that offer reduced CO2 production, transport minister Jim Fitzpatrick said.
"Bringing cleaner, greener vehicles onto the market as soon as possible is a priority for the government, but we want to direct our efforts where they will have the biggest impact in reducing emissions and tackling climate change," he stated.
According to the Telegraph, it may be possible to receive discounts on car or van insurance by opting for a green model.
