Van Insurance - Educational scheme could reduce van insurance costs

Educational scheme could reduce van insurance costs

A Department for Transport scheme aimed at improving the quality of van driving around the country, which could result in lower van insurance premiums for some drivers, has now trained over 4,000 people, it has been revealed.

The Safe and Fuel-Efficient Driving (Safed) for Vans Scheme aims to promote safe van driving procedures and highlight ways in which such motorists can preserve fuel on long-haul journeys.

Drivers looking for cheap van insurance could benefit from such schemes, with motorists who used the scheme "feeling more in control of their vehicles and less stressed", the Department for Transport advised.

The scheme aims to have over 7,500 van drivers qualified by the end of March, with commercial van insurance premiums also set to benefit.

"We are working with over 500 companies, so I am absolutely confident that the target will be reached," said Safed project manager Claire Shrewsbury.

The original Safed pilot phase began in late September 2005, running until the end of November that year.
