Drivers who are constantly getting held up in traffic due to roadworks may be interested in the latest government announcement.
Transport minister Rosie Winterton has said that new powers brought in today should make the lives of motorists easier, including those needing van insurance.
According to the minister, moves to giver councils more power when it comes to coordinating road works and regarding parking enforcement will make taking to the wheel on the nation's roads more driver-friendly.
"Ongoing roadworks and unclear parking enforcement are among road users' biggest concerns. These new powers are designed to tackle both issues and are a key part of the government's strategy to tackle congestion and keep traffic moving," Ms Winterton said.
The new powers allow councils to demand more notice from utility companies about when they are carrying out work, while parking fines will not be based on a target or used for revenue raising.
Ms Winterton's announcement follows a decision earlier this month by the government to open the country's first car share lane with the aim of reducing journey times and drivers' carbon footprints.
