A number of van drivers who may have risked a van insurance claim by driving above the speed limit in Cambridge have given some surprising excuses as to why they were travelling too fast.
The Cambridge Evening News reports that motorists stopped for speeding in the Papworth Everard, Conington, Swavesey and Fen Drayton areas as part of a recent operation even went so far as to say that their vans had to surpass the speed limit when travelling uphill.
Another excuse given by the law-breaking drivers was that it was necessary to speed because they were late for work.
Police Community Support Officer Chris Blewett said: "We heard all manner of excuses for speeding but there is no excuse."
A number of drivers were given fixed penalty notices, which may impact upon their van insurance premiums when they come to renew their policy.
Recently, an operation to reduce the number of speeding drivers in York netted 50 motorists in just two hours, the York Press reports.
