The UK van and truck market saw a positive end to the year with a rise in unit registrations recorded in December.
Figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) revealed total unit registrations were up by 13.7 per cent month-on-month to 23,026, while for the full year, registrations rose 17.8 per cent to 303,097 in 2011.
"Renewed business confidence fuelled the month-on-month rises, while innovative developments in vehicle design and technologies provided solid business reasons for companies to upgrade their vehicles," commented SMMT chief executive Paul Everitt.
However, he added that the industry must not sit on its laurels and should continue to push forward to help with the economic recovery in 2012.
The news follows an accolade for one of the most popular new van launches in 2011, the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter.
Last month, the model was awarded the accolade of Best Large Panel Van of the Year 2011 at the Fleet Van Awards.
