Spate of thefts leads to car keys warning

Cheshire motorists are being urged to protect their car keys after a spate of vehicle thefts across the county.

Drivers could fine themselves risking more than a car or van insurance claim should a thief get hold of their keys, as the Middlewich Guardian reports that vehicles have been taken after keys were pulled through letterboxes on the end of a hooked cane.

This is in addition to some thieves walking into people's homes and just taking their car keys, the publication states.

Detective Chief Inspector Sue Fraser warned that these crimes were on the increase in the area.

"As security systems become more sophisticated, car thieves look to find alternative ways of accessing cars," she stated, adding: "Make sure your keys are kept out of reach and out of sight."

Meanwhile, motorists could find that they better ward off car or van insurance claims by investing in a key fob.

Auto Express states that the modern key methods are more secure than their traditional counterparts.
