Saving money 'is straightforward' for van insurance customers
03 Oct 2008
Van insurance motorists who are feeling the pinch during the current economic downturn can make significant financial savings by changing their behaviour behind the wheel, the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) has claimed.
The organisation stated drivers who make the effort to accelerate and brake gently would cut costs at the pump.
Resisting the temptation to travel faster than 70 mph is another way motorists can reduce fuel consumption, it suggested.
"Edging over the motorway speed limit of 80 mph saves very little time, but it will cost typically around three or four pence per mile more," IAM pointed out.
Removing any excess weight from a vehicle was also cited as a useful measure which could result in cheaper motoring, it added.
Meanwhile, IAM has welcomed statistics from the Department for Transport which have shown that road deaths fell by seven per cent in 2007 in comparison with the previous year.
