Online tool 'will help van insurance customers go green'

Van insurance customers looking for an eco-friendly vehicle can now compare green credentials online.

The British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association (BVRLA) has introduced a CO2 tool onto its website which allows people to view the emissions of different makes and models.

It stated it has been urging manufacturers to make this information available for a year so that buyers are able to make an informed decision when purchasing a new vehicle.

The group said van makers had agreed to do this, but not until later in 2009.

As a result, the organisation decided to publish the data itself.

Head of legal services Jay Parmar stated: "We hope this online tool will fill some of the information vacuum faced by UK van buyers."

In other news, BVRLA claimed the 13-month VAT reduction announced by Alistair Darling in his pre-Budget review would provide a multi-million-pound boost to the vehicle rental and leasing industry.
