Workers who have been involved in a van insurance claim after a road accident may welcome a call for deaths of employees on the road to be investigated more thoroughly.
A report from the House of Commons Transport Committee - Ending the Complacency: Road Safety Beyond 2010 - estimated there were between 750 and 1,000 workers killed behind the wheel while they were carrying out their professional duties.
The group has claimed more needs to be done to look after employees who drive as part of their job.
It stated: "It is anomalous that the vast majority of work-related deaths are not examined by the Health and Safety Executive, purely because they occur on the roads."
Meanwhile, the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (Rospa) pointed out it had been campaigning for better occupational risk management for drivers for more than ten years.
Earlier this month, Rospa urged the government to change the way time is kept in the UK in order to cut the number of accidents on the road.
