The government has announced an extension to its Plug-In Car Grant, enabling individuals buying electric vans to receive 20 per cent off the cost of purchase.
Discounts of up to £8,000 are being offered to buyers under the policy, with Westminster reaffirming its commitment to run the scheme until at least 2015.
Business minister Mark Prisk commented: "An upfront purchase grant, when combined with lower running costs and tax benefits, can make switching to an ultra-low carbon van an attractive choice for businesses."
He added that the policy fits well with the UK van market, as many users make short trips in urban areas to make deliveries.
The announcement follows the publication of figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders earlier this month, which showed a positive end to 2011 for the UK van and fleet market.
It showed total new unit registrations were up by 13.7 per cent month-on-month to 23,026.
