Officers park the vehicles fitted with surveillance technology at crime hotspots and wait for the criminals to break in, potentially leading to a performance car insurance claim in real circumstances.
Detective Inspector Dave Brown said: "Rather than advising the public that their belongings may be stolen if they leave them on display, we are telling the criminal that they may be caught on hidden cameras and prosecuted."
