Polish high performance car insurance customers, among others, are being urged to ensure that their vehicles meet UK standards as they are increasingly choosing to bring native cars with them to Britain.
According to Avon and Somerset Constabulary, many Poles may be unaware that their cars will need to be registered in the UK after being here for six months, while others may not have the correct performance car insurance cover.
"We've built really good links with Polish people who have moved to the town, so we arranged for officers from the constabulary's road policing unit to come and talk to Polish community groups about the laws," said Police Constable Amanda Mehrlich.
In addition, officers have called upon the DVLA to produce some Polish literature with regard to the legal aspects of car ownership in Britain which can be distributed among Polish residents.
Statistics from North Yorkshire's County Council highlight that young Polish men are most at risk on the area's roads, with many failing to ensure that they have the correct performance car insurance.
