A man from Lancashire who potentially risked more than a high performance car insurance claim when he left his vehicle defrosting with the keys in the ignition has said he will not change.
Ken Hardman, aged 45, told the Lancashire Telegraph that he was fined £30 by police who noticed his Mercedes-Benz 180 defrosting on the driveway.
"I asked what the offence was and was told it was quitting' - leaving your vehicle's engine running unattended on a public highway," he said.
But Mr Hardman has said that he will not amend his actions, adding that police "should have better things to do than penalise law-abiding citizens".
He received the fine as part of Operation Cold Start, in which police look out for criminals planning to steal vehicles left to defrost unattended - potentially leading to a hefty performance car insurance claim for the owner.
This winter has seen police across the UK warn drivers of the dangers posed by leaving vehicles to thaw out with the keys in the ignition.
