Many motorists are scared of manoeuvres or procedures commonly thought to be second nature to most drivers, it has been revealed.
A new survey from Churchill Insurance found that aspects of driving such as parking in a small space, joining motorways, driving in the dark or even turning right across a busy junction were scary to many motorists.
And drivers who fear their lack of confidence could see them jeopardising their premiums commonly avoid such routes altogether, the survey noted.
Over a third of female respondents and 29 per cent of males questioned said they avoided some routes so that they could avoid turning right, while 20 per cent of all respondents said joining a motorway frightened them..
And safety officials advised that the warmer weather would see more people out on their motorbikes and putting bike insurance premiums at risk.
"There is an issue with motor cyclists. From now until September, there will be a lot more motorbike accidents, fatal and serious," said Road Safety Wales member Dafydd Edwards, speaking to the Western Mail.
Last month a group of MPs advised that motorbikes be fitted with speed limiters in order to counteract rising accident statistics.
