Riders in London could be less likely to claim on their bike insurance as the city's accident rate is lower than in other areas, according to experts.
The British Motorcyclists' Federation stated that with a greater number of riders on the city's roads and a decline in the number of cars, there have been fewer reported accidents.
As a result, this means that riders in the capital are less likely to claim on their bike insurance than people elsewhere in the country.
Jeff Stone, spokesman for the organisation, attributed the lower accident rate in London to the smaller number of car drivers being more aware of the greater number of motorcyclists.
He said: "The accidents are often the fault of the other driver, so if you remove the other driver, you remove most of the problems."
Mr Stone cited research showing that three-quarters of motorcycle accidents involve another vehicle.
In 70 per cent of cases, the other driver tended to blame the rider, meaning that the bike owner will probably be forced to claim on their motor bike insurance.
Earlier this year, London authorities launched a multimedia campaign aimed at encouraging motor bike riders to wear protective clothing in order to reduce the accident rate on the city's roads.
