Road safety minister Jim Fitzpatrick recently announced at the Association of British Insurers' (ABI) motor conference that plans to deliver insurance certificates via e-mail would soon be put into action.
This may help cut the amount of time motorbike insurance holders usually spend waiting for their certificate in the post.
The ABI's assistant director of property, motor and liability, Justin Jacobs, said: "This announcement will have significant benefits for motorists. Enabling the use of the latest technology will improve customer service and will bring insurance technology into line with other industries."
At the same conference it was announced that police are now seizing and crushing a record number of vehicles found to be without insurance cover.
