Charity needs motorbike insurance customers' old parts

Motorcycle insurance customers are being asked not to throw away their old motor parts, but donate them to charity instead.

Last year, charity Open Road was set up and now aims to help teenagers by offering them motor mechanic training schemes, the Norwich Evening News reports.

Youngsters can learn to be a mechanics at holiday club initiatives and workshops with the help of parts donated by motor bike insurance customers, while sessions are also offered one day a week to young people who may be at risk of exclusion from school because they are in trouble.

PC Colin Lang, of Norwich police, called upon motorcycle insurance customers in the area to offer their old unused parts to the workshops.

"We are supported by some of the major motoring organisations, but we still desperately need any old parts, even if it is just an engine, for our mobile workshops so youngsters can learn how things work," he said.

The charity's centre was officially opened in October by two-time British Rally Champion Johnny Milner.
