New race at Revival 'may interest motorcycle insurance customers'
04 Sep 2008
Motorcycle insurance customers may want to get themselves down to the Goodwood Revival in just over two weeks time.
Organisers claim a number of legendary riders are set to take part in a Barry Sheene Memorial Trophy race for 1950s motorcycles.
From this year onwards, the motorcycle race at the event will alternate between this new 1950s competition and the established one for 1960s bikes.
In order to be eligible for this year's race motorcycles will have to be of a kind that competed between 1951 and 1954.
Famous names taking part in the race include eight-time world champion Phil Read and ten-time winner Stan Woods.
Goodwood is also set to introduce a number of changes to the format of the race.
As usual there will be a race on Saturday and Sunday but each owner rider will be teamed up with a professional racer and they will change in the pits halfway round.
Elsewhere, the motorcycle industry has called for a six month delay in introducing changes to the test procedure.
