A call for crash barriers to be redesigned with bikers in mind may be welcomed by motorcycle insurance customers.
The Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) has conducted a study which revealed the deaths of one in six riders killed on UK roads could be the result of them hitting a crash barrier.
It was also found that motorcyclists are 15 times more likely to die after hitting this kind of safety device than car occupants.
Commenting on the findings, Neil Greig, IAM director for research and policy, stated: "Our road authorities must now 'think bike' and design crash barriers that give riders protection against the aggressive features that cause devastating injuries."
He said Britain should follow the example set by France, explaining that over the Channel retro-fitted lower rails designed to prevent bikers hitting support posts at accident blackspots have been installed.
In other news, IAM recently reminded people on two wheels to be wary of motorists who may not see them coming.
