MCIA: Winter no time for motorcycle riders to wimp out

Although winter can be a more dangerous time for motorbike insurance policyholders, the Motor Cycle Industry Association (MCIA) says it need not mean riders should put away their Harley Davidson.

The organisation pointed out there are several additional hazards in the cold months that can cause accidents on the road but also a few measures that can be taken to minimise this risk.

Reduced visibility can be an issue, which is why motorbike riders should keep their lights on even when it is not completely dark - but be careful not to dazzle on high beam, MCIA warned.

To make sure they are seen on the highways, wearing a reflective jacket could be de rigueur.

MCIA is committed to promoting the use of motorbikes all year round and is behind the Get On campaign, which is aimed on getting young drivers committed to the habit.

One of the advantages, apart from the sensations, is the significant savings riders could stand to gain by taking to two wheels - and not just by finding cheap motorbike insurance.
