Future motorbike insurance customers 'need to be protected'
04 Sep 2008
People who are likely to be looking for motorbike insurance in the near future after completing their practical test may back calls for a delay in introducing new exam procedures.
Representatives from the Motor Cycle Industry (MCI), the Motorcycle Rider Training Association and Riders Edge met with the transport minister Jim Fitzpatrick to request plans to be put back six months.
The industry is concerned for the safety of novice riders who will be forced to ride long distances to reach a test centre.
Commenting on the talks, Craig Carey-Clinch from MCI said: "The minister was receptive and we had what I believe was a productive meeting."
He added he was now hoping for a swift decision.
As things stand, the motorcycle test is due to chance on September 29th.
In other news, motorbike riders who always ensure they are fully insured may be pleased to hear that a quarter of a million vehicles have been seized since new police powers were introduced to tackle the problem.
