Motorcycles - Code of conduct could prevent motorcycle insurance claims

Code of conduct could prevent motorcycle insurance claims

Bikers in London keen to avoid a motorcycle insurance claim may welcome guidance on the new freedom for riders to use some bus lanes in the capital.

The Motor Cycle Industry Association (MCI) has launched a code of conduct for motorcyclists planning to take advantage of the scheme.

Devised in partnership with the Metropolitan police, the guidance reminds bikers to be alert to the fact they will be sharing the road space with other vulnerable individuals, such as cyclists.

Craig Carey-Clinch from MCI said being able to use bus lanes was good news for motorcyclists in London.

However, he added bikers needed to act responsibly.

"This is why the MCI and its partners have developed the code, which provides valuable advice and encourages riders to be aware of pedestrians and cyclists," Mr Carey-Clinch concluded.

In other motorcycle news, MCI recently announced bike registrations were down 16 per cent in November, in comparison with the previous month.
