Car and van insurance claims made as a result of vehicles encountering potholes have risen over recent years.
According to TyreSafe, claims for damage have increased by 78 per cent in the UK's capital since 1996, while England and Wales have seen a rise of 42 per cent in claims made.
Meanwhile, the group has said that local councils are failing to fill 12 per cent of holes in the road, equating to about 120,000 potholes.
But drivers can help themselves avoid tyre damage from the holes by keeping their wheels at the pressure level suggested by the manufacturer of their vehicle, the body states.
In addition, it adds that driving slowly around potholes is to be advised to prevent a tyre blow-out.
The BBC has claimed that if work to repair the holes continues at the current rate, it will take 11 years to complete the job.
