Road users who risk getting behind the wheel without modified car insurance in the Thames Valley area are unlikely to get away with it for long, one police officer in the region has suggested.
Chief Inspector Gill Wootton said the authorities are doing everything they can to prevent drivers taking to the road without the necessary legal documentation.
These comments were made after figures from Thames Valley police revealed 6,031 vehicles were seized in the first eleven months of 2008.
Ms Wooton commented: "The sheer number of cars seized so far this year shows how determined officers are to get unlicensed and uninsured drivers off the road."
Road policing teams were first given the power to seize vehicles from such motorists during a pilot scheme in February 2006.
During October of the same year, the authority was awarded to all forces across the UK.
In other news, Thames Valley police recently announced 47 motorists had been stopped for speeding during an operation in Windsor and Sunningdale.
