Modified car insurance policyholders 'can get even more personalised'

Modified car insurance customers will soon be able to add a new aspect of personalisation to their vehicle, as the new range of '10-series' number plates will be available to view online next week.

The new registrations can be seen on the DVLA website from Monday (November 2nd) and the motoring body believes that their introduction in March 2010 will result in an increase in the number of drivers wanting to purchase a private plate.

Sales begin on Tuesday December 1st and the new system - which will use the digits '10' to represent vehicles registered in March 2010 and '60' on those registered in September – is replacing one that has been in place since 2001.

A recent survey conducted by the DVLA found that many drivers see the present number plates as confusing, with only 17 per cent able to correctly identify '09' and '59'-plated cars as being registered in March and September of this year respectively.

Earlier this year, the personalised plate '5 O' was purchased for £87,853.75 at a DVLA auction.
