Modified car insurance customers could be among the motorists wasting money because their tyres are not inflated properly, TyreSafe has warned.
Research quoted by the group has shown driving on tyres which are ten pounds per square inch under the pressure level recommended by the manufacturer can increase fuel consumption by 2.5 per cent.
As well as saving you money at the pump, TyreSafe also stated correctly inflated tyres can reduce CO2 emissions.
In addition, the organisation claimed those road users with well-maintained tyres are less likely to be involved in an accident.
Chairman Rob Beddis commented: "By taking just a few minutes every month to check the pressure of each tyre and adjust it to the recommended level, significant improvements to road safety will be made."
Previously, TyreSafe has suggested motorists should make the effort to understand the codes written on the sides of their tyres as they convey important information.
