Modified Cars - Garages 'should join code'

Garages 'should join code'

Motorists who know where they can get the best deal on modified car insurance but are unsure where to go to find a trustworthy mechanic may back calls for more garages to demonstrate a commitment to providing their customers with the best experience possible.

The Motor Industry Code of Practice for Service and Repair includes a number of principles businesses are being asked to agree to - including fair and transparent pricing - and one automotive group has urged more businesses to sign up.

The Vehicle & Operator Services Agency said firms needed to do more to improve the reputation of the sector.

Chief operating officer Alex Fiddes stated: "We would encourage MOT garages to sign up to industry codes and seek to improve standards for motorists."

A recent independent review of the initiative found 95 per cent of the calls the scheme's employees have received so far were from vehicle owners seeking advice, with the other five per cent being complaints.
