City motorists 'more likely to drive without modified car insurance'
12 Sep 2008 City motorists 'more likely to drive without modified car insurance'

People living in cities are more likely to drive without modified car insurance than those from smaller towns and villages, the British Insurance Brokers' Association (Biba) has claimed.

This comes after statistics from the Motor Insurance Bureau (MIB) revealed six of the ten worst offending areas for uninsured driving in the UK are in the West Midlands.

Graeme Trudgill from Biba put this down to the fact that car insurance was more expensive for motorists living in cities like Birmingham and London.

He said this was because drivers in cities were more likely to be victims of car crime and there was also an increased risk they would be involved in an accident.

Nevertheless, Mr Trudgill warned motorists against getting behind the wheel without car insurance.

He stated: "The laws are there and they will catch you if you try and evade and the net is tightening."

Figures from MIB have shown there are about two million uninsured vehicles on roads in the UK.
