Cheap insurance 'should be available for novices'

Young motorists struggling to secure cheap modified car insurance may welcome calls for less expensive cover to be made available to novices.

The Association of British Drivers claimed offering reduced premiums to inexperienced road users who complete advanced training would be a step in the right direction.

However, it added the incentives should not necessarily stop there because it is important to do everything possible to encourage youngsters to undertake courses to improve their skills behind the wheel.

Founding member Hugh Bladon stated: "If the government were sensible, they would give people plus points instead of minus if they've passed some sort of accredited improvement course."

He stated the real process of learning to drive actually starts once a person loses their L-plates.

UK roads would be much safer if more individuals continued their motoring education after passing their test, Mr Bladon concluded.

Meanwhile, youngsters who are struggling to secure cheap cover may find some of the best deals are available online.
